ABOUT
Broken beats, good vibes, and heavy drops since 2009
THE LABEL
Play Me Records is a Los Angeles-based record label founded in 2009 by Reid Speed and Alexander Rosson. Drawing on Reid's decade-plus career as a pioneer of multi-genre bass music in the USA, Play Me quickly rose to the top of the American bass music market, becoming a driving force in the scene.
What started as a passion project became a launching pad for some of the biggest names in electronic music. Play Me has been instrumental in kickstarting the careers of artists including Dillon Francis, MUST DIE!, Figure, Bare, Bro Safari, Singularity, Cyberoptics, J. Rabbit, Mantis, SirensCeol, Nostalgia, and countless more.
The label was voted Best Dubstep Label of 2010 by Beatport and was the top-selling dubstep label on Symphonic Distribution that same year. With seven #1 releases and over half of all releases reaching the Top 10, Play Me established itself as a quality-first imprint with an ear for groundbreaking sound.
Play Me's music has been licensed by Ministry of Sound, Nike, MTV, CBS, and So You Think You Can Dance, bringing bass music to audiences far beyond the underground.
THE FOUNDER
Reid Speed is recognized worldwide as a highly skilled drum & bass DJ and a pioneer of the multi-genre bass music movement. Born and raised in Long Island, New York, she discovered jungle music in 1994 and quickly became immersed in New York's vibrant underground scene—clubs like Limelight, Tunnel, Konkrete Jungle, and Save the Robots.
She bought her first turntables in 1996 and was playing out within a year. Working at Breakbeat Science—the first exclusively drum & bass record store in the US—she earned residencies at legendary parties including Camouflage, Stuck on Earth, and Direct Drive. From 1997 to 2000, New York's D&B scene was at its peak: seven nights a week, packed parties, and Reid was at the center of it all.
In 2001, she signed to Breakbeat Science's label and released her first mix "Resonance" to critical acclaim, followed by 2003's "Life After Dark." By the late 2000s, she founded Play Me Records, channeling her experience and connections into building a home for the next generation of bass music producers.
2009–2025
From dubstep's golden era through the evolution of drum & bass, trap, and beyond, Play Me has remained committed to one thing: the music. The label's catalog spans dubstep, drum & bass, breaks, trap, and everything in between—always pushing boundaries, always breaking new artists.
In 2020, the label celebrated over a decade of releases with "10 Years of Play Me," a 16-track compilation showcasing the label's evolution and enduring impact on bass music culture.
Today, Play Me continues to champion LA's homegrown talent while connecting with artists and fans worldwide. The label's artists regularly support international acts like Andy C, Hedex, and Rudimental, proving that the Play Me family is stronger than ever.
